Pennies from Heaven
We believe that all God’s children deserve an equal chance at life and we work to instill that Christian belief in our Belle Chasse UMC children.
Each Sunday in worship, right after the “Children’s Sermon”, our children collect “pocket change” for their children’s mission project. This mission benefits The Methodist Children’s Homes; The United Methodist MacDonell Children’s Services; and G.R.A.C.E. Camp, a United Methodist camp for children of incarcerated parent(s). So far, the children have collected over $26,000.

Worship
Each Sunday, the children stay with their parents in the sanctuary for the beginning part of our worship service. They have a special message from our pastor and then they collect “pocket change” for their children’s mission project, Pennies from Heaven. This mission benefits The Methodist Children’s Homes; The United Methodist MacDonell Children’s Services; and G.R.A.C.E. Camp, a United Methodist camp for children of incarcerated parent(s). So far, the children have collected over $26,000. After collecting the Pennies from Heaven, the children have an option to leave worship to participate in Children’s Sunday School or head to the nursery.
Nursery
Children are always welcome in worship at Belle Chasse UMC. For those families that choose to use it, we offer a nursery for children under 5 years old. Families can either drop off their little ones in the nursery before worship or they can bring their young children with them to worship through the Children’s Sermon and the “Pennies from Heaven” collection, and the nursery kids can exit the sanctuary with the rest of the children as they leave with their Sunday School teacher for children’s Sunday School. The nursery is located in Hodge Hall.
Sunday School
Worship begins at 9 AM on Sunday mornings. Early in the worship service, our children have a “Children’s Sermon” from the pastor, and then they go to Sunday School where they learn about God and God’s wonderful works. We have different teachers each month, so the children will get a full experience and knowledge of God.
Special Events
Throughout the year we host events to make sure that our children grow up knowing the love of God and following in the way of Jesus Christ. Our children participate in worship on Children’s Sabbath, where they lead the actual worship service. We also host an annual Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival, and a Christmas Celebration. Please come and check out “Our Little Church on the Bend”. We all have big hearts and would love to see you and your children there!
Youth Ministries
All students from grades 6th through 12th grade are invited to participate in Belle Chasse United Methodist Church’s youth ministry. Our ministry is rooted and grounded in God’s love. We seek to help youth recognize and accept God’s grace, discover their spiritual gifts, and grow in faith and in service to others.
To best meet the needs of our youth, Belle Chasse United Methodist Church has partnered with several of the United Methodist Churches on the West Bank of New Orleans – Gretna, Aurora, Boynton, Asbury, and Algiers UMCs – to form the Best Bank Youth Group.
The Best Bank Youth Group gathers once a month for a time of fun, food, and faith formation for youth in 6th-12th grade. We play games, participate in missions, lead devotionals, host movie nights, and engage in all sorts of fun activities to engage our youth.
